If VTB Bank receives an offer to participate in testing the Russian digital currency, then it is ready to accept it. The position of this state bank was expressed by its deputy head Vadim Kulik. He commented on the speech of Olga Skorobogatova, Deputy Chairman of the Bank of Russia, who announced the tests of the crypto-ruble in 2022. The official stressed that the decision to introduce the token will be made only if the regulator successfully tests it and sees interest in this instrument from market participants. The Central Bank promises to present a prototype of the digital ruble by the end of this year. The testing phase is scheduled for the first quarter of 2022. Skorobogatova also noted that crypto-ruble holders will be able to send coins to each other absolutely free. The central bank does not plan to set limits on the amount of digital currency stored in crypto wallets. The deputy head of VTB Bank believes that the regulator will be able to create an infrastructure for operations with the crypto-ruble within two years. In addition, the financial legislation will need to be adjusted, Vadim Kulik emphasized. VTB Bank itself is ready to participate in testing and in the process of introducing the token, since Russians’ interest in digital technologies has grown noticeably in recent years. Accordingly, it can be assumed that the new instrument will be popular in our country, the banker believes.
